![]() ![]() Unlike the peripheral nervous system, the central nervous system – which includes the brain and spinal cord – contains a lot of interneurons. When you think of certain functions, including decision making and learning, they are only possible because of the interaction between these interneurons, which allows the brain to perform these complex functions. These neurons have long axons and they connect the circuits found in one region of the brain to circuits found in another region of the brain. They form these circuits in order to analyze small pieces of information. Local interneurons form circuits with neurons close by and have short axons.
